REMARKS ABOUT
HORSE BREEDS INVENTORIES.
To establish a list that we present to you under the chapter Selected horse breeds, we have scoured a good number of ancient and recent works as well as a multitude of sites on the Internet. After an in-depth study of all the different inventories we have arrived to the conclusion that there does not even exist two that are identical. The inventories differ on the number of breeds, the names of breeds, the cradles of origin and the corresponding countries.

In our view, the most complete inventories can be found on the sites of www.lexiqueducheval.net and www.a-horseman.com. Yet, if you go and visit them you will find that there is still a number in question. The Lexique du Cheval frequently questions on the difficulties of verifying information in particular on the existence, the disappearance or extinction of certain breeds.
Bonnie L. Hendricks, International Encyclopedia of Horse Breeds is considered as one of the most detailed books on the subject.
The case of the donkeys being most complex it will be the subject of another publication. Indeed, certain breeds and in particular in ancient Persia and more largely in Asia are very difficult to catalogue and even more so those of which are close to extinction and others protection by scientific organisations.
For the zebras the inventory is much easier to realize since there exist only five known distinct breeds, which we will soon publish.
Together we will see what is going on, worldwide, at the level of mule breeding and the breeding of the crossbreds of zebras, horses and donkeys.
