Horse statues

THE WORLD ENCYCLOPAEDIA

OF HORSE STATUES

johan-de-witt-11

Let us imagine for a moment a world globe before us and if we succeed to put a point on each place that figures the location of a horse statue we would obtain a very important imaginary Web of statues. Besides on the sea, there is not one continent, nor country that does not possess a multitude of horse statues.

Without a doubt, of all the animals, we feel that we can affirm that the horse is the most represented animal in any case in the form of sculptures outdoors and thus proves once again the importance and the cultural influence of the horse on mankind.

By horse statue one must understand a three-dimensional representation of a horse mounted by a rider. These statues are at that point numerous that is inconceivable that one or even several individuals could ever realise the extent of a world inventory.

The horse statues represent a vast sculptural and historical lecture of the relationship of man and the horse and that spans at least from 5000 years ago until now. Without forgetting the sculptures and the colossal number of hours they invested in all these statues and taking into account the mountains of most precious cut stones and thousands of tonnes of bronze. In the passed the great men were most often immortalised on horseback.

To do a really passionate inventory of all the horse statues we would not only have to be numerous but also very knowledgeable about this particular subject. You will have understood that the one group of individuals in the world who are numerous enough to realize this, are the Horse People, who would readily grasp the interest of the creation of a world encyclopaedia of horse statues and who would give the necessary attention to participate.

We ask all the amateurs as well as the professionals to participate in the greatest bank of images, freely accessible, of horse statues and by evident extension the sculptures of bear horses.

We will ask you to indicate with the most possible precision:

  • the location of the statue (country, city, street/place etc.),
  • the GPS coordinates,
  • the name of the horse and its breed,
  • the name of the rider,
  • eventually the text of the commemorative plaque,
  • the date of inauguration,
  • all historical information and anecdotes,
  • the material and the condition of the statue,
  • the name of the artist who created the statue, and
  • the name of the author of the image, his address with the qualification : amateur or professional.

When the images arrive they will be continuously published in the chapter Galleries – Horse Statues Gallery, if desired with the mention of the name of the author.

The future authors heaving read the present appeal for the World Inventory of Horse Statues are requested to relinquish all copyrights of the images transferred to Horses of the World Park France in exchange of what, the Horses of the World Park France gives the guarantee of free access to the data bank of images submitted. To do so we ask the Horse People to send the images of the horse statues preferably in the format of JPEG or EPS or by post mail.
